Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home Props

RACProps prototypes for Star Trek IV on the workbench

Proton Collector (AKA Power Leach)

The Power Leach was delivered to the studio with more detailing (see protoype picture bottom right), and I was then taken with it into Leonard Nimoy's office where he said he wanted it less busy and could I loose some of the detail?
I then when down to the prop truck and hacked the extra parts off.
During filming they also did not use the fold out antenna, but it is still there, folded up, during the beam out scene.

Vulcan Welding Goggles

These gold goggles were worn by the Vulcan repair crew as they refurbished the Klingon Bird of Prey, they came with or without lights on the top band

Vulcan Diagnostic Tool

This prop can be seen above and in the first image with the Vulcan welding goggles.

Klingon Flashlight

Hidden in the background in an alcove of the Bird of Prey bridge is a Klingon flashlight. The initial purpose for this prop was to be a waterproof flashlight that Kirk would use to find the hatch to release the whales. The idea was scrapped, but of course it was still there in background.
